Wow, it’s only the 3rd day of the new year and it’s going by so fast! I’m savoring the last few moments of my much-needed break as I’m gearing up to start work again. I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the holidays with your families. I must admit 2008 was a stellar year. I had a chance to make lots of new friends, reconnect with some old friends, and take pictures of their beautiful families. I can’t tell you enough how excited I am to see what 2009 holds.
Given some time during the break to reflect on the past few months, I recognized that as much as I LOVE my job, capturing my friends’ cherished moments, there are a few things that I LOVE even more than photography. Namely, my family. Unfortunately things had gotten sooo busy round here that I neglected a few things…sleep, showering, early morning runs, a healthy lifestyle (replaced by a diet of caffeine and sugar and many, many sedentary hours spent behind my computer)…not to mention a cheery, pleasant disposition (mainly due to lack of sleep), but MOST IMPORTANTLY, my loved ones.
So without having to quit my photography all together, I’ve decided it’s necessary to make some changes around here. Some good, some not-as-good. But, truly, all for the better. One being, I have decided to limit the number of sessions I will be doing each month. Which may mean you will have to plan ahead to book your session. (I’m currently booking for March 09). The good news is that this will give me more time to devote to my clients.
One thing I pride myself on is doing the best job I can possibly do. I hate to disappoint my clients and anything less than an ideal session or an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response causes me to strive harder to acheive it the next time. And I think I could possibly accomplish it all – balance my family, work and life – if I had a full-time assistant, cook, cleaner, chauffer, nanny, trainer, event scheduler, and cheerleader. But in the meantime, I’m going to have to settle with scheduling a few less sessions this year.
Wishing you all the best in the new year!
