Fall 2009 Style – What to Wear

Stumped as to what to wear for your Family Portraits this year?  Take a peek at this awesome guide on What to Wear put together by Michele.   The thing to keep in mind is to find coordinating colors for the whole family, not necessarily the same matching colors.  Also, I usually tell my clients to pick out an outfit for the hardest one to find (usually mom or the sister) and then you can start to build the rest of the family around that outfit.

I recognize that we live in Texas and sweaters may not be the clothing of choice right now, but you can easily accessorize with scarves or vests…or layer your clothing and bring your jackets/sweater for the family picture and  then wear what you have under your jacket for rest of the session!

Here’s some examples:

All of these clothing choices came from www.oldnavy.com or www.bodenusa.com.  A lot of clothing websites will also have some outfit ideas for you as well.  I’ll list some great retailers in my next post for more resources.

I would love to put together some more clothing ideas for you…if you’re still feeling stumped or need some help, feel free to contact me.  Clients have sometimes sent me a link to their outfits online or taken a snapshot of what they have in mind and I’ve given them my input.  It doesn’t have to be new clothing, I can work with what you already have in your closet.  Or I may even have something of my own to add to their clothing choices.  (That’s the beauty of having both a boy and a girl!)

Happy Shopping!   Thanks, Michele, for your awesome styling!

Sending a little blog love your way…

To my pleasure and delight, I have recently befriended Vanessa, owner of Jacquelyn Reece Baby and Kids and writer of “One Haute Kid” Blog.

You MUST check it out:  {Read: RUN, don’t walk!}  Her taste is impeccable, her style is extremely hip, and she has a plethora of helpful ideas for your Baby & Childrens Decor.  Not to mention, her custom bedding and monogramming are to die for!  And the bonus is that it won’t break your bank!

Check out some of these custom monogrammed designs:

Seriously, I could spend all day reading her blog and still not get enough!  It makes me want to redesign every square inch of my house!  (Shhhh…Don’t tell my husband!)  ;)

I’m really excited to be working in collaboration with her, photographing some of the fabulous rooms she has designed.  I’m also thinking of trying out some of her exquisite fabrics as backdrops – I can hardly wait!  More in store for you this summer…

Designers’ Showcase: Pish Posh Girls

One of my favorite places to browse and shop is on Etsy.com…LOVE it!!!  And this particular designer, Laura of Pish Posh Girls, is AMAZING.  From reading a recent interview with her on Aug 28th, she seems like an incredible person in addition to being a highly talented designer as well!

I cannot get enough of her designs and apparently neither can anyone else…her fall line has sold out!  She will be making some new designs for Winter/Christmas and she may have some material left from her fall line if you desire a custom order.  Check out her shop on Etsy:  http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5650060 ~  Run, do not walk!

Designers’ Showcase

As promised, I plan to start a new tradition of highlighting my favorite designers each year in August.   I couldn’t think of a better time for back-to-school shopping, not to mention getting ready for Christmas.  I’m a big-time Christmas planner and I always strive to find the perfect gift for everyone on my list!  :)  Well, let’s just say that I USED to be an obsessive planner.  Before, I would start planning/shopping early in the year for my friends & family, put up my tree and holiday decorations, have all the presents wrapped and ready to go by Thanksgiving …and then just sit back and relax during the holiday shopping frenzy.  But now that things are crazy busy with my photography (this time of year being the BUSIEST), I’m sad to say that I have since joined the ranks of those last-minute shoppers!

So for all you planners out there (and even for those last-minute shoppers too!), I am going to share some great finds I’ve run across (makes for good gift ideas!) as well as a Designers’ Showcase to spotlight my favorite designers and their extraordinary talent!  To make it easier on you to keep up with the latest news, just hit the “Subscribe” link above and you will receive your very own copy in your inbox.  How easy is that??  Don’t worry, your email address is safe with me…you won’t receive any unsolicited spam, just my latest post!

First up is an incredible designer duo, Pinkie and Black.  I had the wonderful opportunity to work with these two remarkable women (Ms. Pinkie and Ms. Black) and to photograph their new Spring/Summer ’09 line.   The fabrics are colorful and eye-catching and their designs are flirty and playful.  With such fun collections named “Sunshine & Safari”, “Boho & Dots”, and “Buds & Poppies”, you can imagine the possibilities!

In a single session, we captured five different collections with five little girls showing an outfit from each collection.  Whew!  It was lots of wardrobe changes and I must say, lots of fun!  They were all delightful to work with and pretty darn cute showing off such adorable clothes.   Here’s a special sneak preview of what’s to come…
