Day 2, A Journey of Giving

Well, the kids were so excited about bringing cookies to the men of the fire department that they asked (immediately after leaving the fire station) if we could go to the police department the next day to bring them cookies!

I’ve had a couple of people ask what is on our list, so I thought I’d share…we’d love to hear your ideas for RACK giving this Christmas and have you join us on our fun adventure!

  1. Take cookies to volunteer fire department.
  2. Shop for Gifts of LOVE campaign in partnership with Sugar Creek and Second Mile Mission Center.  Drop off new, unwrapped gifts to church the next day.  SCBC will be accepting gifts until Dec 12.
  3. Send cards to a soldier:  Holiday Mail For Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456   (All cards must be postmarked no later than Friday, December 9th.)
  4. Donate books from our own personal “library” to READ for Houston, volunteer organization that provides books to children in need.  http://readforhouston.org/READ_for_Houston/Home.html
  5. Buy canned goods to donate to Second Mile (let kids do the shopping).  They urgently need soup, dry beans, canned meat, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese.
  6. Bring teachers hot chocolate to school in the morning.
  7. Drop off new, unwrapped gifts to Salvation Army at Randall’s.
  8. Let someone get in front of you in line at school or in a store.  Offer to put away shopping cart for someone.
  9. Bake cookies and share with our neighbors.
  10. Go to a restaurant and pay for someone else’s meal (let kids pick family).
  11. Go through Kate’s closet to donate clothes to Second Mile.  Go through Ethan’s closet and donate to family in AISD.
  12. Write a letter of appreciation to a past teacher who made a difference in your life.
  13. Pick up garbage on school grounds.
  14. Write thank you notes to lunch staff at the school.
  15. Make soup and bring to school to give to teachers.
  16. Give gifts to custodians at the school.
  17. Volunteer to help at the Gifts of Love Christmas Party, 8:30am-12:30pm, for a 2-hr shift.
  18. Call your grandparents (and great-grandparents!) and tell them that you love them.
  19. Purchase a small Christmas tree and decorate it for a nursing home resident.
  20. Leave thank you notes & small gifts/gift cards to recycle and trash collectors.
  21. Make holiday cards for a local nursing home.
  22. Volunteer at Second Mile Missions Pantry.
  23. Redeem Living Water Gift Card by choosing which project/country to bless.  Make a snack bag for a homeless person.
  24. Hand out blankets or old coats to homeless.
  25. Share an encouraging word/smile/hug/prayer/phone call with someone who may need it.
  26. Write a letter to a missionary overseas.
  27. Make a new friend.
  28. Share your talents by helping someone in need.
  29. Help do a chore around the house without being asked.
  30. Bring get well balloons to local hospital and leave with nurse for someone who may need cheering up.
  31. Offer a helping hand to a friend.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Blessings to you and yours!

Dream job.

I would’ve never guessed I’d be lucky enough to do something I love so much when I grew up…

These were taken at a workshop I attended this summer from the incredibly talented and outrageously HILARIOUS rockstar extraordinaire Angie Monson of Simplicity Photography.  I cannot tell you how much fun I had meeting such a great group of girls.  I hope to post more later of our country session (I’ll never forget our time together in the fields, TJ!)…

Spring has sprung!

I am always fascinated at the start of a new season…the temperature changes, flowers bloom and fade, colors shift all around us.  And certainly, just as the seasons change with time, we seem to undergo growth through our own personal seasons – seasons of joy, seasons of sorrow, seasons of change and opportunities.  It is my prayer for you that you will find your purpose and fulfillment in each season of your life.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.  Ecclesiastes 3:1

I was just at this same park a few weeks ago, not a single leaf on the trees…it’s amazing how quickly life blooms when you’re not noticing.

Thank you, sweet C, for letting me spend some time with your little ones in the midst of a hectic schedule.  Love and blessings to you and yours!

Just Can’t Stop Smiling…
